CLONES REGENERATION PARTNERSHIP

Clones Regeneration Partnership was formed in December 1998, and consists of representative and community groups from Clones, supported by the executive members of the local authority and the various grant agencies.  The Partnership wishes to create a framework for regeneration that raises aspirations and makes a real and lasting difference to the local economy and to people of Clones. It wishes to do this through encouraging new potential development partners to invest in the town, attract new business families to move their operations to Clones and ensure people continue to live in Clones.

The Mission Statement of the Partnership is :

To involve everyone who lives and works in Clones and the surrounding Border Hinterland in generating economic and physical development taking account of the Social, Cultural and Recreational aspects in an accountable and inclusive manner and to ensure Clones makes a full contribution to and benefits equitably from Developments in the Region as a whole.

Clones TownThe Clones Regeneration Partnership oversees two employees working on two projects in the town. Josephine Treanor is the project officer with the Common Grounds project. The Common Grounds project is a programme of development work  undertaken by  Clones Regeneration Partnership from September 2009-December 2010. The primary aim of the project is to get the community in Clones Erne East ready for the arrival of the state-of-the-art community sports facility which is being developed through the Shared Spaces project and which will be completed in 2012.

The Partnership also recently welcomed their new employee, Gerry Darby, to Clones Town.  Gerry is the new Project Coordinator for the Partnership and is based in the Monaghan County Council’s Clones office, in the Old Bank Building at the Diamond.  The post was funded by the Department of Community, Equality and Gaelteacht Affairs.  As Project Coordinator, Gerry’s main  role will be to promote and communicate the major benefits of the forthcoming Ulster Canal project to Clones Town and the outlying Clones area.  Gerry will try to ensure that people in Clones are not only aware of the physical layout of the canal project and proposed marina  but more importantly its social, economic and regenerative impact and the potential for new investment to the Town.
